Danced exclusively by men, malambo dates to the 17th century when it emerged on the Argentine Pampas as a competitive duel among gauchos (or cowboys) to prove prowess, strength, and vigor. Today, Argentina’s Che Malambo re-imagines the style as an exhilarating, entertaining performance. Their precise footwork (or zapeto) mimicking the galloping of horses, the intense drumming of the bombos, and the whirling of the boleadoras (or lassos) combine for a thrilling dance and music spectacle. Don’t miss Che Malambo’s fiery, virtuosic dancing as the company debuts on the Rialto stage.
This is a Rialto Series performance.
